Cabin Counselor | Position Overview
Winnipesaukee Boys Lacrosse Camp welcomes dedicated individuals aged 16 and older (having completed 10th grade or above) who are interested in being considered for the role of Cabin Counselor. Ideal candidates have experience as student-athlete leaders, in lacrosse instruction, vocational or leadership roles, and/or camp experience working with children.
This is a paid position that offers an excellent opportunity to gain meaningful leadership experience while being supported by our experienced senior staff. Cabin Counselors play a vital role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and enjoyment of our campers. Our staff are an extension of our core values—individuals who put campers first, lead by example, and are excited to be part of an unforgettable island overnight camp experience.
Responsibilities for Cabin Counselors
Supportive Role: Cabin Counselors will be paired with a younger CIT to support assigned campers while also mentoring and guiding the CIT throughout the week. Counselors are expected to support fellow staff members and contribute positively to the overall camp community.
Camp Arrival and Welcome Tasks: Cabin Counselors are required to participate in all staff training sessions and the welcome lunch. Arrival by 9:30 AM on the first day of camp is required.
Camp Guidelines: Cabin Counselors must adhere to all camp rules, policies, and regulations set by the Executive Directors. Responsibilities include providing lacrosse instruction, supporting camper social-emotional needs, assisting with hygiene and medical requirements, supervising meal times and dietary needs, participating in evening activities, and supporting daily camp operations.
Operational Support Overview
Cabin Counselors provide daily operational support across all areas of camp, including:
Supporting lacrosse instruction and skill development, including officiating, coaching, evaluating play, recording competition scores, reporting tournament results, and assisting with team management throughout the week
Supervising campers throughout all camp activities and transitions
Supporting camper social-emotional needs in collaboration with senior staff
Assisting with hygiene routines and medical requirements as directed by Camp Directors
Supervising meal times, hydration, and dietary needs while ensuring camper safety and well-being
Participating in evening activities and daily camp operations
Cabin Duties: Cabin Counselors are required to be present in their cabins during designated rest times and overnight, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and camper supervision through departure.
Personal Property: Winnipesaukee Boys Lacrosse Camp is not liable for loss, theft, or damage of personal property.
Safety and Well-Being: Cabin Counselors must help maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all campers and promptly report any issues or concerns to Camp Directors. Inappropriate behavior or discussions related to sensitive topics are strictly prohibited.
Supervision and Role Modeling: Cabin Counselors are responsible for the health and well-being of their assigned campers at all times, including supervision during lacrosse training sessions, scheduled events, and cabin time. Counselors are expected to be exemplary role models on and off the field.
Quality Values: Cabin Counselors, like all WINNILAX staff, must demonstrate strong values aligned with our mission as coaches, educators, mentors, and role models.
Mentorship: Cabin Counselors work closely with assigned CITs throughout camp, providing leadership, structure, and guidance. Older or returning Cabin Counselors may also serve as mentors to newer staff members, helping foster a supportive and collaborative environment.
End-of-Camp Duties: Cabin Counselors will lead their CITs in assisting with end-of-camp responsibilities, including cabin walkthroughs, gear collection, and closing tasks following camper departure. Plan for departure around 4:00 PM on the final day.
Paid Position: The Cabin Counselor role is a paid position. Compensation details will be discussed with applicants (and parents/guardians when applicable) during the interview process and finalized through the Official Annual Contract.
Opportunity for Future Re-Hiring: Cabin Counselor hiring is conducted on an annual basis and is dependent on performance, availability, and program needs. Returning opportunities are earned through positive impact on and off the field. Cabin Counselors who take a year off may receive first consideration for return, pending availability and performance history.

Parent/Guardian Involvement & Approval: Any candidate under the age of 18 must include an approving parent/guardian on all email communications and participate fully in the interview and onboarding process, including execution of the Official Annual Contract, completion of background screening requirements, and formal acceptance of the seasonal employment opportunity.
Age 16 or older (must have completed 10th grade or above)
Experience in lacrosse instruction and/or camp experience working with children
Previous participation as a WINNILAX camper or in the Leadership Program is supportive but does not guarantee selection
Staff selection is based on availability, role vacancy, and performance
Willingness to live in a cabin and camp environment and enjoyment of being outdoors
Mature, respectful, and responsible demeanor
Strong reputation as a student-athlete
Participation in athletic teams, school clubs, or student organizations
Strong leadership and communication skills
Previous camp or youth-focused work experience is a plus
Ability to ensure camper safety and well-being
Ability to pass required background screening
Capacity to work collaboratively with staff and connect with campers
Passion for lacrosse, coaching, education, and camp values
Commitment to upholding camp guidelines and regulations
Interest in future work involving children, athletics, leadership, or education
